Can Vinegar Really Cure Your Toenail Fungus?

Finding out you have toenail fungus is never a pleasant discovery. Often the victims have been in denial for several months or even years and avoid searching for a toenail fungus treatment. Unlike other infections one may get, toenail fungus infections are often not taken as seriously as with other infections.  At first the victim may try and cover it up, either by wearing closed shoes instead of open ones, or covering up the nail fungus infection with nail polish in the case of fingernails.

When people seek treatment for toenail fungus one of the first places they turn to is the Internet, where a variety of natural treatments are suggested for toenail fungus. Many toenail fungus sufferers want to use natural treatments to cure their infection rather than chemical ones.

Some say that vinegar can effectively cure toenail fungus.  Here are some of the reasons why vinegar is thought to be a treatment.

Vinegar has been used in fighting infections

Vinegar is believed to be effective against fighting infections, having been used since Hippocrates, who lived between 460-377 BC. While it can be effective in clearing some bacteria on washroom tiles or surfaces, there hasn’t been any verifiable evidence that vinegar effectively treats toenail fungus.

Vinegar is used as a cleaning agent

Vinegar has also been used as a cleaning agent, usually diluted with water so it does not harm surfaces. This could be another reason many think vinegar works as a cure for toenail fungus.

Vinegar is cheap

Most types of vinegar can be bought inexpensively from almost any local grocery store. You can buy it over the counter, meaning you don’t need a prescription, and you don’t need to see a doctor. Since toenail fungus victims are often embarrassed about their fungal infection being able to easily buy vinegar without needing to see a doctor makes it a popular choice toenail fungus treatment choice for many.

Is vinegar an effective cure for toenail fungus?

This is the $64 million dollar question. Many tout the benefits of vinegar as a natural remedy for treating toenail fungus but there are just as many still living with toenail fungus. And what’s more important is that as yet there has been no verifiable evidence that vinegar cures toenail fungus infection. If you have toenail fungus by far the best way to cure it is to treat it seriously and see a foot doctor who will prescribe a treatment to get rid of it as quickly as possible.
